Job Description
The position
This role focuses on coordinating operational planning, integration, risk and issue management, to ensure successful delivery of the tournament, hosted in Brazil.
The Project Manager will work with internal and external stakeholders, including FIFA and FIFA27, host cities, government entities, and venue authorities, to achieve excellence in planning, readiness, and execution.

The Project Manager will be a key role during tournament time, co-ordinating day-to-day operations at the Tournament Operations Centre and coordinating with stakeholders to resolve issues.
Travel and flexibility to work irregular hours may be required due to the nature of the event.
Key responsibilities
Project Management and Integration
- Under the direction of FIFA’s Lead of FWWC Portfolio Management based in Zurich, implement the FIFA Project Management framework throughout the planning, readiness, implementation and closure phases of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 project.
- Assist to implement project management processes and standards within FIFA27.
- Coordinate cross-functional and venue teams to ensure the integration of operational, venue and client planning activities.
- Collaborate with Functional Areas (FAs) in FIFA27, Host Cities, and stakeholders to develop and implement comprehensive function and venue operating plans (Project Definitions, Operations Plans and Site Operational Plans).
- Assist in the development of tournament-wide contingency plans and ensure functional area and venue alignment.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of the master project plan, critical roadmap from a FIFA27 perspective, capturing all key milestones and tasks and the monitoring thereof.
- Provide strategic and operational support, including tracking progress, risk-issue monitoring, and milestone adherence.
- Assist in the delivery of the Tournament Operations Centre (TOC) structures and systems to facilitate coordination and issue resolution.
- Provide regular updates and reporting to senior leadership and stakeholders on progress, risks and issues. Help to compile presentations to senior management
- Compile standardised reports on project progress, risks, and dependencies to ensure alignment with governance structures
- Data extraction, consolidation and visualisations
- Coordinate the development of client and functional operating plans, policies, and procedures using FIFA templates.
- Assist in the definition and integration of client journey plans in collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Manage the agreement process for client service levels and priorities.
- Ensure consistency in planning and delivery across competition and non-competition venues.
- Support Functional Areas in FIFA27 in preparing and maintaining activity and event schedules, monitoring risks, issues, and resource requirements.
- Enable risk management processes, including identification, mitigation, and escalation of risks and issues across FIFA27.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 31000 standards for risk management.
- Support the development of strategic contingency plans.
- Work with Functional Areas in FIFA27 to ensure risks are identified, documented and mitigated effectively.
- Plan and conduct readiness exercises, including simulations, rehearsals, and testing of infrastructure, systems, and processes.
- Build the capability of functional area and venue teams through tailored readiness activities.
- Capture and implement lessons learned from readiness activities to optimize tournament delivery.
- Prepare for tournament time by transitioning into the day-to-day coordination and issue management role within the Main Operations Centre.
- Contribute to FIFA’s knowledge management initiatives, including the Observer Program, debriefs, lessons capture, and post-tournament reporting.
- Ensure proper transfer of knowledge through documentation, photo capture, and archiving of key materials for future events.
- Provide training to FIFA27 users on FIFA’s project management methodology and tools.
- Ensure consistent application of project management principles across the organization.
Your profile
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business, Project Management, or a related field.
- Knowledge of event planning and project management processes.
- Familiarity with various project management methodologies, including Agile and Scrum, is an advantage.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in leading complex, large-scale projects, preferably in international mega-events or sports events.
- Proven track record in developing and executing strategic and operational plans.
- Experience managing stakeholder relationships across government, corporate, and community groups.
- Expertise in project and risk management, issue management, operational readiness, and contingency planning.
- Experience in tournament time operations, including incident management and resolution.
- Experience working in cross-functional, multi-stakeholder and multi-cultural environments.
- Professional certifications such as PMP, APM, or Prince2 is required.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Experience with project management tools is an asset.
- A good proficiency in visualisation tools such as Power BI or Tableau for reporting.
- Familiarity with collaboration tools and systems for managing complex projects.
- Right to work in Brazil.
- Fluent in English (spoken and written)
- Fluent in Portuguese (spoken and written)
- Ability to re-locate to Rio de Janeiro.
