Job Description

The position

The Cleaning and Waste Management Coordinator will support the Senior Cleaning and Waste Management Manager in the planning, operational readiness, implementation, and monitoring of cleaning and waste management operations across FIFA Official Sites. The role supports waste minimization by reviewing and assessing procurement and service contracts and contributes to achieving defined waste diversion targets.

The position is execution-focused and site-oriented, responsible for supporting readiness planning, coordinating day-to-day operations, and monitoring service delivery during test events and tournament operations. The CLW Coordinator plays a key role in translating strategic and functional requirements into practical, on-the-ground execution, ensuring operational continuity, compliance with FIFA requirements, and the timely identification and resolution of issues at the venue level.

The ideal candidate will combine expertise in event operations, sustainable cleaning, and waste management with strong project management skills. This role will focus on optimizing operational efficiency, ensuring stakeholder satisfaction, and minimizing environmental impact while adhering to FIFA’s stringent standards.

Key responsibilities

Planning & Operational Readiness

  • Support the development and readiness planning of cleaning and waste management operational plans across stadiums and other FIFA Official Sites.
  • Contribute to Service Level Agreement (SLA) development and alignment with Functional Area (FA) leads, ensuring requirements are clearly defined, operationally feasible, and venue-ready.
  • Support Service Level Requirement (SLR) alignment with stadium facility management teams, ensuring consistency with existing venue operations, infrastructure, and constraints.
  • Participate in readiness assessments, site walk-throughs, and test events to validate operational plans, staffing levels, infrastructure, and service flows.
Operational Coordination & Delivery
  • Coordinate day-to-day cleaning and waste management operations in line with approved operational plans, service levels, and schedules.
  • Support match-day, non-match-day, and peak-load operations to ensure service continuity and operational effectiveness.
  • Monitor contractor performance on site and report deviations, risks, and non-compliance to the Senior Cleaning and Waste Management Manager.
Sustainable Waste Operations & Infrastructure
  • Support waste minimisation and waste diversion efforts through the correct implementation of waste streams and operational controls.
  • Assist in the deployment and operation of temporary waste management infrastructure, including interim collection points and resource recovery areas.
  • Monitor correct segregation and handling of waste streams and provide practical on-site guidance to teams and contractors.
Monitoring, Reporting & Issue Resolution
  • Conduct regular site inspections to assess operational readiness, cleanliness standards, and waste management performance.
  • Support data collection, basic reporting, and performance tracking against defined waste diversion targets.
  • Identify operational issues early and support escalation and resolution processes in coordination with the Senior Manager.
  • Contribute to post-event reviews, lessons learned, and continuous operational improvements.
Team & Contractor Coordination
  • Support on-site supervision and coordination of cleaning and waste management crews.
  • Assist with operational briefings, inductions, and coordination meetings.
  • Promote compliance with HSE requirements and safe working practices across all operations.

Your profile

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in cleaning, waste management, facility operations, practical sustainability or event operations.
  • Experience of working at large-scale sporting events, major events, or complex multi-venue operations is strongly preferred.
  • Practical understanding of cleaning operations, sustainable upstream and downstream management of discarded materials, and contractor-based service delivery.
  • Experience coordinating service providers and working in live operational environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Facility Management, Environmental Management, Sustainability, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong operational coordination and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, high-pressure event environments.
  • Clear communication skills and ability to work across multiple stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving mindset with a hands-on, solution-oriented approach.
  • Good reporting and documentation skills.
  • Working knowledge of HSE principles related to cleaning and waste operations.
  • Willingness to travel extensively between FIFA Official Sites
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including match days and peak operational periods
  • Right to work in Brazil.
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written)
  • Fluent in Portuguese (spoken and written)
  • Ability to re-locate to Rio de Janeiro.
