Job Description

The position

Reporting to the Head of Media Relations, FIFA Women’s World Cup 27™, the Senior Media Relations Manager will be a key member of the FIFA27 Corporate Communications and Media Relations team, and work in close collaboration with the Zurich-based FIFA Communications and Media Relations teams and other key individuals responsible for delivering Public Relations efforts for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027.

This role will be responsible for executing comprehensive media engagement strategies to promote the tournament, manage media relations, and ensure effective messaging is delivered to and through journalists. Further, this role will support the Head of Corporate Communications and Media Relations in proactive story ideation, pitching and placement across targeted media throughout the tournament footprint and beyond to maintain a positive public image and enhance engagement during the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027.

Key responsibilities

The main responsibilities and oversights of the Senior Media Relations Manager for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027™ include:

  • Contribute to the development and execution of integrated media engagement strategies that effectively promote the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027, aligning with event objectives and messaging.
  • Coordinate the distribution of compelling and accurate press releases, news articles, and media materials.
  • Monitor media coverage and social media sentiment, providing timely insights and suggesting the adjustment of communication strategies as needed.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent messaging across media channels and touchpoints.
  • Coordinate media events, press conferences, and media-related logistics in advance of, and during the tournament, ensuring smooth execution, in coordination with the Media Operations team.
  • Foster positive relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers to enhance event coverage and visibility.
  • Evaluate communication efforts post-event, analysing successes and areas for improvement to inform future strategies and initiatives.
  • Support the FIFA and FIFA Women’s World Cup Communications team in implementing the spokespeople policy developed for the tournament, including the evaluation and approval of interview requests for members of the management team.

YOUR PROFILE

  • Minimum 8 years experience in communications, media and public relations
  • Familiarity with the world of football and a passion for women’s football
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written) and Portuguese (spoken and written)
  • Spanish language skills are an asset
  • Able and willing to relocate to Rio de Janeiro
  • Able and willing to travel up to 50% of the year
  • Able and willing to work non-traditional hours including evenings and weekends as needed
