Job Description
The position
The Senior Compliance Counsel under the guidance of the Head of Legal FWWC 2027 and the FIFA Compliance and Risk Department will provide compliance support and oversight in Brazil for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027™ and help to ensure that FWWC 2027’s activities comply with applicable compliance laws and regulations and meet best practices.
The FWWC 2027 is seeking an experienced individual to be an integral part of the FWWC 2027 team, responsible for implementing and overseeing a comprehensive governance and compliance programme throughout the organisation.
This person will act as a point of reference in Brazil for compliance-related matters within FWWC 2027, as well as be the compliance liaison for the FIFA Compliance and Risk Department in Miami.
Key responsibilities
Compliance
- Establish a framework to identify, prioritize and enable the effective and efficient management of compliance risks facing the organisation through periodic compliance risk assessment.
- Work closely with the FIFA Compliance and Risk team in Miami to design, implement and periodically review compliance policies and procedures governing key risk areas such conflicts of interest, anti-bribery and corruption, anti-money laundering/KYC, gifts and entertainment, etc.
- Monitor and report on the effectiveness of the compliance programme activities.
- Provide ad hoc compliance and governance related advice.
- Design and work with HR and Internal Communications to develop and deliver a compliance awareness and training programme.
- Liaise with external counsel on compliance matters.
- If applicable, liaise with regulators and auditors.
- Perform investigations and advise on whistleblower and hotline case management.
- Advise on third-party risk and management, including implementing and overseeing third-party due diligence processes.
- Manage conflicts of interest, including any required disclosures associated with such conflicts of interest.
- Key point of reference for the Head of Legal FWWC 2027 on all compliance matters in Brazil.
- Act as main compliance delegate for overall FWWC 2027 risk management activities, including timely implementation of compliance risk mitigation plans.
- Demonstrate a team-based approach to achieving the best outcomes for FWWC 2027 in accordance with FIFA’s values.
- Ensure productive working relationships with all the relevant stakeholders (FIFA, CBF, Host Cities, stadium authorities, government entities, FIFA’s Commercial Affiliates, multilateral development institutions, NGOs and local communities).
- Demonstrate an understanding of FWWC 2027’s commercial drivers and desired outcomes, and a willingness to take a hands-on approach.
- Manage the escalation process for compliance risks.
- Drive process efficiency and policy improvement.
- Ensure the assigned responsibilities are delivered: to a high standard of quality and timeliness;in full compliance with the safety and security rules and requirements of FWWC 2027 and FIFA; and in line with any applicable key performance indicators.
Your profile
- Bachelor of Laws
- Qualified to practice law in Brazil (or the ability to easily obtain this qualification)
- Fluency in English
- A minimum of 4 – 5 years’ experience as a qualified lawyer, with in-house experience preferred
- Experience in compliance or a related field.
- Excellent writing skills
- Good analytical and organizational skills
- Experience with sporting or events organisations or commercial rights holders/sponsorship
- Experience in MS Office programmes (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, MS Teams)
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through
- Capable of balancing legal and commercial outcomes
- Ability to manage competing priorities
- Skilled at time management
- Skilled in problem solving, solution-oriented and pragmatic
- Flexibility and a related ability to work autonomously in a dynamic and fast paced environment

- Strong identification with the FIFA World Cup and the potential positive impact on the Host Country
- Passion for football recommended
- Right to work in Brazil.
- Fluent in English (spoken and written)
- Fluent in Portuguese (spoken and written)
- Ability to re-locate to Rio de Janeiro.
