Job Description

Who are we hiring?  

The Head of Medical & Performance is responsible for leading all medical, sports performance, and player health initiatives across the club’s multi-club ecosystem, including the Kansas City Current (NWSL), Kansas City Current II, and HB Køge Women (Denmark). This executive-level role directs a holistic, data-driven approach to player care, injury prevention, rehabilitation, performance optimization, women’s health, and long-term athlete development. The role ensures alignment of standards, protocols, staffing, and resources across all clubs to deliver a world-class player care and performance model.

What will you do?  

  • Develop and implement a unified medical and performance philosophy across all clubs within the multi-club  ecosystem.
  • Ensure consistent clinical, return-to-play (RTP), and performance protocols and standards across Kansas City Current, KC Current II, and HB Køge Women.
  • Facilitate collaboration among medical and performance staff across countries, ensuring alignment while adapting to local regulations and governing-body requirements.
  • Lead long-term planning for athlete health, performance optimization, injury reduction, and multidisciplinary player support.
  • Oversee all aspects of sports medicine, including athletic training, physical therapy, physician access, rehabilitation systems, and emergency action plans.
  • Own RTP processes, case management, and individualized athlete care plans.
  • Ensure compliance with NWSL, U.S. Soccer, Danish FA, FIFA, and local medical governance requirements.
  • Manage medical documentation, injury reporting, and data privacy protocols across all clubs and leagues.
  • Direct hiring, staffing models, education pathways, and professional development for all medical personnel.
  • Lead Strength & Conditioning, Sports Science and Nutrition disciplines across all clubs.
  • Oversee the creation and execution of performance plans, periodization, monitoring systems, workload management, GPS and heartrate utilization, and testing protocols.
  • Ensure all medical and performance plans reflect evidence-based female athlete care by integrating women’s health insights into player development pathways.
  • Direct multi-club performance data strategies, dashboards, and insight pipelines to support technical and coaching staff.
  • Integrate medical, performance, and technical data to inform individualized long-term development plans.
  • Partner closely with Sporting Directors, General Managers and Head Coaches, to ensure medical and performance decisions align with competitive strategy and long-term player development.
  • Establish annual department budgets and resource allocation for all clubs with the multi-club network.
  • Implement multi-club emergency and crisis management protocols, including travel medical logistics and international coordination.
  • Maintain oversight of vendor relationships, specialist consultants, and external medical partnerships.

What do you need to succeed?  

Requirements

  • Education: Advanced degree in Sports Medicine, Athletic Training, Physical Therapy, or equivalent medical field.
  • Certifications: Licensed or eligible for licensure in relevant jurisdictions (U.S. and Denmark as applicable).
  • Time Commitment Expectations: Willing and able to work outside of regular business hours and travel out of state/ country for consecutive days.

Experience 

  • Minimum 7–10 years of experience in elite sport, preferably in professional soccer or women’s high-performance environments.
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary and multi-site teams; international experience preferred.
  • Strong background in applied sports science, performance management, and data-driven decision making.
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and collaboration skills.

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and another language is preferred.
