The people who create the structures and develop women’s football in the background have been partially invisible until now. That’s why we want to shine the spotlight on them and publish the 50 most influential people in women’s football.

What qualities should someone who wants to make it in the world of women’s football business have? Do you have to complete a specific degree? Or bring practical knowledge to the table? On closer inspection, it becomes clear that there is more than one way up. The most important thing is to be passionate about what you do. 1. Sarai Bareman

Chief Women’s Football Officer FIFA

Sarai Bareman is FIFA’s Chief Women’s Football Officer, having been appointed in 2016. Following a modest playing career, her career in football administration began when she was appointed finance manager for the Football Federation of Samoa, whom she represented on the pitch. She later became the organisation’s CEO, playing a pivotal role in rebuilding the public trust after financial scandals before returning to New Zealand as operations manager of the Oceania Football Confederation.  Bareman became the sole female member of FIFA’s 2016 Reform Committee, advocating for increased female representation in leadership positions within the organization.

She made 278 appearances for the Parisians after joining from Clairefontaine and has taken on a role as the Deputy Director of the PSG Foundation, where she worked to promote social initiatives and community engagement through football.

In this capacity, Delannoy was involved in many of the club’s charitable projects and youth development programs. In summer 2022 she accepted the role as assistant sporting director of PSG. Her transition from player to administrator has allowed her to continue contributing to the sport and the club she represented for over a decade. Delannoy has leverage her experience and reputation in football to make a positive impact off the field as well as on it.
