The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to be an active and contributing staff member within the Women’s Performance Support Team with a focus on contributing to the Women’s Performance Therapies, who deliver at a group and individual player level within the Women’s 1st Team. The key is to support the development of physical resiliency, athletic capability and reducing injury risk.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the formulation and implementation of a Strategic Vision for The Performance Support Team and Performance Therapy team through shared consciousness and the empowered execution (implementation and delivery) of a process and data driven, evidence-based programme.
- Build competence, integrity and consistency in the Performance Therapies programme, more specifically ensuring (for all assigned players of CFC Women’s 1st team):
o Support in attendance of training sessions and/or matches to provide acute injury care and immediate management.
o Individual preparation of players for all training and matches.
o Lead in the development of evidence based “best practice” guidelines for the rehabilitation of common injuries and return to play progressions and testing protocols.
o High quality management of injuries effectively through clinical assessment, audit and accurate documentation.
o Coordination, development and implementation of interdisciplinary injury prevention programmes.
o A monthly review of all injury management in the Women’s 1st Team with emphasis on learning for improvement.
- Interdisciplinary cooperation with the rest of the Performance Support team, especially in:
o The presentation and delivery of relevant preventive and development measures in the context of athletic training/development.
o Analysis and presentation of training recommendations for individual performance development and player workload management.
o Collaboration with physical performance staff to ensure earliest possible access to players within the rehabilitation pathway.
o Support the delivery of recovery protocols and management of the ‘Other 22 Hours’ (Sleep, Nutrition and Recovery).
o Collection and interpretation key player performance and health metrics and create actionable insights to maximize player management, development, health, and performance for both healthy and return to play players.
o Support the design and delivery of Chelsea FC’s Integrated Practice & Individual Player Development Plans (IDPs).
- Support effective communication with key management staff, Head Coach and First Team Coaches.
- Communicate with appropriate staff at training grounds and stadium regarding medical provisions, first aid and treatment room.
What you will bring to the role
- BSc Hons in Physiotherapy.
- CSP/HCPC Registration.
- MSc in Sport Physiotherapy, Advanced Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy or related.
- Valid FA ATMMiF qualification.
- Extensive experience delivering performance physiotherapy within elite sport (Football an advantage but not essential).
- Outstanding clinical assessment skills and understanding of common pathologies.
- Clear and demonstrable experience of planning and delivering on objective, criteria led return to sport rehabilitation plans.
- Outstanding hands-on/manual therapy skills.
- Clear emphasis towards empowering athletes within the rehabilitation process, ensuring that an active, rather than passive, approach is taken wherever possible.
- Strong emphasis on working within a team and capacity to share knowledge to benefit all.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
