FIFA27 will be established as the Local FIFA Subsidiary in Brazil, to work together with FIFA HQ in Zurich and globally, to deliver the biggest women’s sporting event in the world, the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027™ (“FWWC2027”).

Job Description

The Position

The Executive Tournament Director, under the guidance of FIFA’s Chief Women’s Football Officer will be responsible for leading the team in Brazil tasked with the successful delivery of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027. The Executive Tournament Director will represent FIFA in Brazil as the primary lead on all tournament related matters in close consultation and collaboration with the CBF, the Brazilian Government, State Governments, local authorities and the Brazilian Football stakeholders. In particular, the Tournament Director will ensure that the strategy, objectives and operational milestones for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 are achieved in a timely manner, within the agreed budgets and in accordance with all FIFA and Brazilian laws, rules and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • The Executive Tournament Director will be directly responsible for all administrative, commercial, financial, legal, communication and reporting matters related to the tournament guided by and in close collaboration with the relevant FIFA Chief Officers and the Head of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
  • The Executive Tournament Director will oversee and support the work of the Executive Operations Director to ensure that all operational milestones are delivered to a high standard, within agreed timeframes and within targeted financial parameters.
  • The Executive Tournament Director will also serve as a key representative and spokesperson for the event in Brazil, effectively engaging with stakeholders, participants, and media to promote its mission and values in close collaboration with the Chief Women’s Football Officer and Head of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
  • The Executive Tournament Director will form part of the FWWC2027 Senior Leadership Team together with the FIFA Head of the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the FIFA27 Executive Operations Director.
  • The Executive Tournament Director will be responsible for ensuring effective delivery from all Departments and key functional areas involved in the tournament delivery in close collaboration with the Executive Operations Director.
  • The Executive Tournament Director will be responsible for ensuring seamless collaboration and reporting into the FIFA Leadership.

Your Profile

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in leading roles in sports event management and delivery.
  • Proven track record in international event delivery with clear achievement of KPIs on budget, event objectives and operational milestones.
  • Experience in working with the Brazilian Federal and State Governments.
  • Capacity to make key decisions for the business through critical problem-solving skills and an ability to use sound judgement.
  • Clear experience in managing multi-million-dollar event budgets.
  • Experience in managing multi-disciplined teams across a variety of business areas.
  • Ability to effectively monitor employees’ organisational performance and implement decisive corrective actions.
  • Ability to hire, develop, coach, appraise and retain highly qualified employees.
  • Have the following strengths: high energy levels, entrepreneurial spirit, motivational leadership, effective negotiation skills, excellent communication skills and positive relationship-management skills.
  • Competent IT skills including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Knowledge of event planning and event project management processes (project management certification such as PRINCE2 or PMP an advantage).
  • Experience and knowledge of the local culture and political structures in Brazil.
  • Experience of working in football is an advantage.
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written).
  • Fluent in Portuguese (spoken and written).
  • Ability to re-locate to Rio de Janeiro.
