As the Designated Safeguarding Officer, you will play a key role in maintaining a safe and secure environment, adhering to governance requirements, and promoting the safeguarding of young players within the academy. You will also serve as an advocate for women’s football, driving forward the standards within the academy.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the management of safeguarding incidents, concerns, and allegations within the PGA and Girls Academy, escalating serious matters to the Senior Safeguarding Manager.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for safeguarding and welfare issues, providing guidance to staff, players, parents, and carers.
  • Work collaboratively with the Club’s Senior Safeguarding Manager and other Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) across the club.
  • Develop and deliver safeguarding policies, risk assessments, and safeguarding training to staff and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain confidential and up-to-date records on all safeguarding matters.
  • Support and educate host families, ensuring individualised accommodation plans for players.
  • Engage with external agencies, including the FA and statutory authorities, to ensure the safety of vulnerable groups.
  • Oversee the well-being of academy players and provide proactive communication with parents and guardians.

Person Specification

Essential Requirements

  • Trained in safeguarding children, including completion of The FA Safeguarding Children Workshop and The FA Welfare Officers Workshop, with an up-to-date DBS.
  • Experience in safeguarding, with a background in social work, child protection, sports development, or a similar field.
  • Ability to work independently and manage cases effectively.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • A deep commitment to confidentiality and safeguarding practices.
  • Ability to work with vulnerable groups and manage sensitive situations.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and travel with teams for matches and tours.

Desirable Requirements

  • Recognised Designated Safeguarding Officer training (Level 2 & 3).
  • Degree level qualification in Safeguarding or related field.
  • Experience in developing policies and managing safeguarding investigations.
  • FA Level 1 Introduction to First Aid in Football (IFAiF) or FA Emergency First Aid certification.

Terms of Appointment

  • Hours: 37.5 hours per week, including evenings and weekends
  • Special Conditions:
    • Successful applicants will be subject to a DBS check.
    • Must hold a full and clean UK driving licence.
    • Must be eligible to live and work in the UK.
